The heart of Fiaker Paul

A name. Four generations. Our story.

Vienna is changing, the pace remains. Since 1970, the name Paul has been inextricably linked to Viennese horse-drawn carriage culture. What began with just one horse-drawn carriage and many visions has developed over decades into an institution that today stands as a bridge between old Viennese culture and modern excellence.

post-war period

The origin: horse-drawn vehicle

Johann Paul I worked with a horse-drawn carriage as a child. Around the Second World War, he founded his own carriage company, which primarily carried out transports for surrounding factories with large, heavy horse-drawn carriages. During the difficult post-war period, carriages were used to collect and sell recyclable heavy metal; the carriages also found work when removing debris and in cemeteries.

1970

The foundation

Johann Paul II and his wife Silvia lay the foundation for the company in its current form. Their vision was not only to preserve the craft of the horse-drawn car, but also to anchor it as immovable furniture in downtown Vienna. They established a culture of hospitality and strict etiquette based on mutual respect between humans and animals.

1985

The consistency

With John Paul III, the next generation takes over the reins. He strengthens the company's reputation, manages to expand the company in a time of change and ensures that the core values — precision craftsmanship and impeccable care of horses — remain unaffected by short-lived trends. A high standard of species-appropriate animal welfare, specialist personnel and quality has become the standard for him, which does not require any loud effects. Until recently, he shaped the industry through many innovative advances and always attached importance to the family's painstakingly worked out heritage.

The future of tradition

After John Paul III had prepared the next generation to take over the horse-drawn carriage in recent years under close supervision, “the boys” are continuing the inheritance today with a modern, future-oriented view — without forgetting where the origin lies. The everlasting values and classic spirit of Vienna are carried forward with contemporary virtues. The highest animal welfare standards and transparency are combined with a sovereign, authentic cultural experience. This is how Fiaker Paul remains what we always were: a Viennese institution that is not fashionable, but permanent.
